The Saints travelled over to Brymbo for their final pre season test before the season started. The game was fairly even throughout but unfortunately for the saints they ended up losing 2-1.
The opening 20 minutes to the first half were fairly uneventful as both teams were trying their tactics and attempting to find a key to unlock their opponents. St Martins had the first chances of the game and they came back to back; first chance was a corner which looked as if it was going in but was pushed away last second then as the ball was cleared away came the second chance for the saints as a ball was crossed in but this time the shot on the end of it wasn’t strong enough to beat the Brymbo keeper. Not long after, in the 36th minute Brymbo scores the first goal of the game and grabbed the lead to make it 1-0. Then only in the 43rd minute Brymbo grabbed their second of the game and that concluded the first half of the game.
The saints came out with a different attitude and a different formation in the second half as they looked a better side and stood their own; and this shown as in the 49th minute Dave Easthope found himself open on the edge of the box, hit the ball first time on his right foot and it nestled in top right to make the score line 2-1. The saints continued to look for something more in the game as they created a fair few more chances and held off Brymbo well but, disappointingly, they couldn’t find anything more and the game finished off 2-1 to Brymbo.
This was a good learning curve as the team now focuses on the season ahead.
