MATCH REPORT: St Martins 3-1 Camell Laird 1907

After a disappointing defeat in their first game of the season to Barnton, the Saints were hoping they could pick up their first points of the season on home soil, as they take on Cammell Laird.

It was a quick start to the game, only a minute in and the Saints created the first chance of the game. Tawanda Melusi lobs  the ball over the defence for Jordan Davies to run at into space, he decides to cross it across the face of goal for Brendon Price, however his final touch sends the ball into the stands.

A few minutes later and the ball is in the back of the net. Dave Easthope plays a perfectly weighted ball into the feet of Melusi, who picks out Karl Bailey as he runs through on goal. He keeps his composure and slots home into the bottom corner.

The Saints almost extend their lead on the 10 minute mark. Bailey pulls the ball back for Melusi, after beating a handful of defenders he slots the ball into goal for Davies to run at, however his final effort is blazed over the bar.

21 minutes in and its 2-0. Melusi picks up the ball and drives at the Cammell Laird defence, after finding his way past a couple of defenders he flicks the ball into the path of Price to finish in the bottom corner.

The Saints celebrations were soon stopped, when Cammell Laird got a goal back. Jay Thomas beats the Saints defence and shoots from a tight angle for the ball to roll in at the far post.

After a period of possession the referee brings the first half to a close, a perfect start to the game for the Saints.

In the 52nd minute, the Saints extended their lead. A perfect attacking move from start to finish from the Saints finds Melusi flicking the ball into the path of Bailey, who muscles off the defenders to finally smash the ball into the bottom corner to get his second goal of the game.

The final minutes of the second half consisted of the Saints having long periods of possession, while Cammell Laird struggled to find a way back into the game.
